So, this post has been sitting in my draft for half a year now. I was in Portsmouth August last year, and a friend who’s studying there recommended this cafe to me.
Garage Lounge was decorated with antique furniture and its ambience was very snug and homelike.
I went there with my friend’s mum or mum’s friend (works both way). It was just before lunch time, so we were seated as soon as we arrived. I then ordered our drinks at the till.
I had a cappuccino and friend’s mum wanted to try a Bumbleberry juice, which came in a bottle and an empty glass.
We took our sweet time looking through the menu for what to eat. Rather than having our orders being taken at the table, again, I had to order at the till and paid for it straight after. It was a new system for me but I had no problem with it.
And our foods actually arrived pretty quick.
Mine was called Wild Mushroom Baked Eggs (with spinach in Béchamel sauce, and two slices of sourdough bread). It was absolutely divine. It took me a while to finish it – which was not a surprise because I wanted to enjoy such a delicious food. Good thing we weren’t in a hurry.
Aunt Ina ordered a menu called Florentine (everything as seen in the picture). Look as good as mine, doesn’t it?
I especially loved that big clock and jars of herbs (or whatever in them)!
Their selection of cakes.
Yes, I know what you’re thinking. I couldn’t choose as well. But I was truly full at the time so, I didn’t have any. We then exited the cafe two hours after.
But that’s not the end of it yet.
We came again the next morning, along with my friend since he couldn’t come along and enjoyed the day with us twenty hours earlier – because he had classes to go to. Well, I guess it’s only fair since he recommended the cafe to me. Then again, I didn’t even have the intention to complain in the first place.
I had mocha and granola with yoghurt, poached fruit, chia seeds, honey and mascarphone for my breakfast.
‘Poached fruit’ was written as one of the ingredients in the Granola, but I’m guessing they put different kind of fruits in it every other day. And as for mine, I had dragon fruit and I was happy because I love dragon fruit.
A friend of my friend had pancakes for his breakfast and since he was sitting next to me, it would be a waste not to take picture of it. Aha, who am I kidding? If your foods are on the same table as mine, please do excuse me.
I also had a slice of Victoria Sponge Cake and Oreo Cheesecake to take home for dearest little siblings.
Anyway, I can’t wait to go to Portsmouth and visit this cafe again! Hopefully soon.
Thank you for reading this post.
May you have happy thoughts always,
Ain

Before I was into this whole cafe hunting thing, I thought they would take our orders at the table. But turns out that 90% of the cafes in Malaysia is using the order-at-the-till-and-pay-for-it-straight-away system.
“if your foods are on the same table as mine, please do excuse me” THISSS!!
I remembered meeting my brothers friends and they all brought their new girlfriends along. For a total stranger asking to take pictures of your food, that act lead us to a great friendship. We’ve become friends after that until today.
I can’t take my eyes off of that Mocha. It looks so big! Bukan nak condemn but most Malaysian cafes will serve their handcrafted coffees in a small cup but put a big price on it. One of the reason why I go to Starbucks.
Ugh those cakes… *drooling*
Ahh, so the whole order-at-the-till thing has been going on for a while in Malaysia? I’ve been here too long. Huhu.
Hahaha, when it comes to taking pictures of a food, we can’t help but forget the “mind your manners at the table”, right? But see, you got a new friend for that. So, it’s not exactly a bad thing to do! 🙂
Actually, I was shocked when my Mocha arrived as well. For an independent cafe, the portion of their foods and drinks were great! But yes, most cafes nowadays nak cut cost kot? So portions pon kena kurangkan…
And ugh those cakes indeed! I’m definitely going to eat some cakes next time I go there!
Thank you for the lovely comment, Tqa! <3
What a stunning cafe! I love the decor. Your meal looks divine, I’d certainly order something similar and those CAKES 😍 xxx
