Edinburgh in a Day

I do love the charming Edinburgh and its sorrowful history, only that I very rarely got the chance to visit it. It took us just above five hours to reach to the city by car (fairly same as train). Though it was sort of a work trip, having a friend who lives there mean I should take a day off as well. After all, it’s not everyday I’m in Edinburgh.

My friend Najwa is currently a PhD student at University of Edinburgh. I’ve always wanted to visit her ever since she started her master’s degree there few years back, so finally!

The next morning, my dad dropped us just outside the university area. We started walking from the university’s student union building, which Najwa took me inside for a little tour and of course, even the area for students to hang out made me feel like in a castle. Her plan was to take me along the Royal Mile, as much as I could walk in my heeled boots.

We walked through the famous steps that give us a majestic view of the castle, up along until we reached Victoria Street which was even more prettier than in pictures.

We stopped for some coffee at one of the cafes along Victoria Street. There were so many pastries and desserts to choose, but I settled for a cup of caramel latte and a slice of an apple pie. I remember admiring how cosy the interior of the cafe was!

We continued walking until we reached the entrance of the castle. As much as I love history, I’m not a big fan of touring castles. I’m good with just reading from the book or hearing from those who have more knowledges of the place.

As it was getting darker, we decided to end our tour with a dinner at a Thai restaurant that serves Halal meats. Safe to say the coffee and apple pie digested well with all the walking as well.

I do have a lot more walk to do, more streets of Edinburgh to discover and some mountains to hike (a lady can dream). Well, until next time Edinburgh! Thank you Najwa for being an amazing host, tour guide, photographer and videographer for me :)

I’ve uploaded more pictures in the gallery!

Think happy thoughts!

Lots of love,

Ain
